Showcasing
Skills - with a difference
The County’s largest careers event is
making a welcome return to the Bath & West Showground on the
7 & 8 November 2007, following its great success last year.
The event, whose main aim is to inspire young
people about what career path they are going to take, offers a unique
way to get a real taste of what working life is like in a specific
job or industry.
Companies and organisations in Somerset get
the chance to offer interactive demonstrations and activities that
young people can have a go at and this can range from driving a
digger and dressing a mannequin through to building a racing car
or reading an x-ray. Where else can our future workforce find out
about 100’s of careers under one roof?
Thanks to the funding from its partners; the
Somerset Strategic Partnership, Somerset County Council, Connexions
Somerset, the Learning & Skills Council, Business Link and the
South West Regional Development Agency, Skills Somerset will attract
schools and colleges county wide via the free travel scheme available.
Companies already committed include Tone Leisure,
Numatic, AgustaWestland, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, Avon & Somerset
Constabulary, Mulberry, Early Years, Aimhigher Healthcare and Paragon
& ITE Training who also took part in the launch event last year.
Kevin Passmore from Paragon commented “Skills Somerset was
a fantastic event and gave young people the opportunity to learn
more about the great number of career opportunities available to
them”.
Organisations who wish to take part
or schools and colleges that would like to arrange a group visit
